Counselor's Corner

Welcome to the Counselor’s Corner webpage! My name is Jody Shapiro, and this is my 9th year as the counselor here at Pasadena Park Elementary. I earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Eastern Washington University and my School Counseling Certificate from Gonzaga University.

Before working as a school counselor, I worked as a therapist in the public mental health system. In my free time, I enjoy long distance running and learning about history and current events. And I'm a big Boston Celtics fan!

I work closely with our counseling assistant, Nichole Zamora, to provide a comprehensive guidance program. In addition, Ruth Crow, will be continuing her internship with us this year. Our mission is to work in partnership with teachers and parents to help students reach their academic potential and develop into responsible citizens. Here are some of the services we provide:

  • ASB/Student Council
  • Career Exploration (including our annual Career Fair and STEM Night)
  • CST (Child Study Team) Meetings
  • Friendship Groups
  • Individual Meetings with Students (Short-term, School-related Counseling)
  • Leadership Group
  • Lunch Bunch
  • Mediation/Conflict Resolution
  • PACE (Partners Advancing Character Education) Monthly Assemblies
  • Panda Pride Classroom Lessons (including Kelso’s Wheel, Second Step, PACE Character Traits, and Anti-Bullying Lessons)
  • Referrals to Community Resources
  • Refocus/Re-teaching in the PR room (Counseling Center)
  • Schoolwide Reward System (includes Panda Pride Cards, Students of the Week, Golden Ticket, and Panda Paw Classroom Parties)
  • Weekend Food (Bite2Go)

I continue to be so grateful to work at such a wonderful school and to serve the West Valley community. Please feel free to contact us in the PR room if your child is having a problem or conflict that is getting in the way of his/her learning. For issues outside of school that require long-term counseling, we can provide you with names of licensed counselors and psychologists in the area.

Best wishes for another successful school year!
